Formed in 2013 by Bilal Subaşı and Ekin Tuna, OBUAN is an experimental psychedelic rock project rooted in Eskişehir, Turkey. The band merges audio-visual elements to craft thematic narratives exploring roads, nature, cosmic themes, and contemporary social issues. Their performances are immersive experiences, blending sonic experimentation with visual storytelling to evoke interconnected reflections on humanity and the environment.
Between 2015 and 2016, OBUAN expanded its lineup with members Doğuş Küçük and Oktay Zengin, performing four distinct audio-visual shows at Peyote Eskişehir. These performances integrated prerecorded video footage tailored to predefined thematic concepts, synchronized dynamically with live instrumentation. The visuals employed cut-up techniques—a method involving fragmented editing and layered juxtapositions—to mirror the band’s improvisational soundscapes. This approach created a symbiotic relationship between image and music, where abstract narratives evolved in real time alongside the band’s experimental compositions. A collaborating member responsible for visual production curated and adapted these elements, ensuring alignment with OBUAN’s overarching artistic vision.
Currently, OBUAN continues its creative trajectory under the direction of Bilal Subaşı and Oktay Zengin, with plans to release a new album.
The collaboration underscores the significance of interdisciplinary art in addressing universal themes, positioning OBUAN as a bridge between traditional musical expression and contemporary multimedia exploration. Through their work, the band redefines the possibilities of live performance, emphasizing cohesion between sensory elements to create immersive, thought-provoking experiences.
